Payment Methods Overview: Choose the Right Payment Gateway for You
A payment gateway is a service that helps you accept online payments. When a buyer clicks the purchase button, the payment gateway securely processes their payment details, confirms the transaction status, and disburses the funds to you according to its rules.
You can think of it like a physical store's credit card terminal: instead of giving their card number to a cashier, customers complete the transaction through a trusted payment service. Kanorio does not store your buyer's full card number or banking details.
Kanorio Does Not Handle Your Transaction Funds
Kanorio does not handle your product transaction funds at all, nor does it act as a payment intermediary. Whether you use Stripe Connect, PAYUNi, or another payment gateway, your buyer's payment is collected by the payment service provider and directly deposited into your account with that service, according to their payout rules. Simply put, money flows directly from the buyer to the payment service provider, and then from the payment service provider to you – Kanorio never handles any transaction funds in between.
Kanorio's transaction fees are separate service charges and are unrelated to the flow of your transaction funds. Read more here: Fees and Exchange Rates.
Available Payment Methods
Choose based on your business location, settlement currency, and the payment methods your buyers commonly use. You can manage these in your dashboard under “Store → Payments”.
| Payment Method | Who it's for | Buyer's Payment Experience | Important Restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe Connect | Sellers located in Stripe-supported countries or regions, primarily accepting international credit cards | Redirected to Stripe's payment page | Actual eligible countries are subject to Stripe's official list and onboarding screen |
| PAYUNi Unified Payments | Taiwanese sellers who want to offer options like credit cards, ATM transfers, or convenience store payments | Redirected to PAYUNi's payment page | Only supports New Taiwan Dollar (TWD) |
| LINE Pay | Taiwanese sellers who want buyers to pay using the LINE App | Kanorio checkout confirmation page → LINE Pay authorization | Only supports New Taiwan Dollar (TWD); only handles mobile payments, not diverse tools like ATM/convenience stores |
| Free Plan | Sellers offering free downloads, tutorials, or resources | Content is accessed directly after login | Only applicable for plans with a fixed price of 0; cannot be used for custom amount entry |
Two Types of Payment Methods, Explained Simply
Integrated Payment Gateways
Stripe Connect and PAYUNi are both integrated payment gateways (also known as "aggregated payment gateways"). After you apply for a payment account, buyers will be directed to the payment page provided by the payment service provider, where they can enter their card details, obtain ATM payment information, or choose other payment options.
This is suitable for sellers who want to offer multiple payment methods at once and prefer their payment data to be handled by the payment service provider.
Mobile Payments
Mobile payments are services that handle specific payment methods, where buyers authorize payments through a wallet app on their phone. After enabling this, buyers will first review their order and amount on Kanorio's checkout confirmation page, then proceed to the corresponding wallet app for payment.
You can link one integrated payment gateway and multiple mobile payment methods simultaneously. However, when a buyer checks out, they will only use one "payment interface" that you've selected, to avoid the same payment method appearing on multiple pages.
Which One Should I Choose?
| Your Situation | Recommended Reading |
|---|---|
| You are in a Stripe-supported country or region and want to accept international credit cards | Stripe Connect (Recommended as the first choice for most sellers) |
| You are in Taiwan and your buyers commonly use ATM transfers, convenience store payments, or Taiwanese credit cards | PAYUNi Unified Payments |
| You are in Taiwan and primarily want to accept LINE Pay | Accept Payments with LINE Pay |
| You offer free resources and don't need to charge buyers | Free plan instructions in Create and Manage Products |
Can I Use Multiple Payment Methods Simultaneously?
Yes. Kanorio supports:
- One integrated payment gateway (e.g., Stripe or PAYUNi; choose one)
- Multiple mobile payment methods (more mobile payment options may be added in the future)
These can be linked to the same website simultaneously. However, during checkout, buyers will only use the one payment interface you've selected and activated in "Store → Payments." They won't see both "PAYUNi" and "LINE Pay" listed on the checkout page for them to choose from again.
Frequently Asked Questions
A payment gateway is a service that securely processes online payments and disbursements. It verifies payments, returns success or failure results, and disburses funds to the seller according to its rules.
Credit card, ATM, and mobile payments require regulated payment services to handle transactions, identity verification, and risk management. Using a payment gateway prevents you from directly handling sensitive buyer payment information.
No. Only one integrated payment gateway can be active at a time. You can, however, have one integrated gateway combined with mobile payment methods.
Yes, it's normal. Stripe Connect and PAYUNi use their own managed payment pages. Mobile payments will first go through Kanorio's checkout confirmation page before redirecting to the respective app for authorization. This ensures that payment service providers securely handle buyer payment data.
