Third-Party Tracking Tools: GTM, GA4 & Meta Pixel
Overview
Kanorio's built-in data analytics can already answer basic questions about traffic, page views, and button interactions. You'll only need third-party tracking tools when you need to manage ad events, view more granular audience data in Google or Meta's backend, or centrally manage multiple tracking codes.
Third-party tracking is a Pro and Business feature in Kanorio. Before setting it up, clarify your objective: If you just want to know which pages are most popular, built-in analytics is usually sufficient. If you need to measure ad-driven conversions, then proceed with further setup.
Choosing Between Three Tools
Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager, commonly abbreviated as GTM, is a toolbox for managing multiple tracking codes. You only need to enter a container ID in Kanorio, and then you can manage Google Ads, other analytics tools, or custom events within Google Tag Manager.
A container ID typically starts with GTM-, for example, GTM-XXXXXXX.
Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4, commonly abbreviated as GA4, is Google's advanced website analytics tool. It's suitable for those who want to view more detailed user behavior, create custom reports, or are already accustomed to working within Google Analytics.
An Measurement ID typically starts with G-, for example, G-XXXXXXXXXX.
Meta Pixel
Meta Pixel is the tracking tool used for Meta ads, commonly for Facebook and Instagram ads. It helps you understand website visits driven by your ads in the Meta backend and build remarketing audiences based on Meta's settings.
A Pixel ID is a 15 to 16-digit number.
Setup Steps
- First, create an account and website resource on the respective service to obtain the correct ID.
- Open "Marketing Tech".
- Open the settings panel in "Third-Party Tracking Settings".
- Enter the GTM, GA4, or Meta Pixel ID into the corresponding fields.
- After saving, confirm that your public website has been published from the "Publish" section.
- Go to the real-time or testing tools of the original service provider to confirm if data is being received.
Kanorio loads your saved tracking settings on your published public website. The editor preview is not a reliable way to verify if third-party tracking is working correctly.
Cookie Consent is a Necessary Companion
Before enabling third-party tracking, also enable the Cookie Consent banner in "Marketing Tech → Floating Widgets". Visitors' consent choices will affect how tracking tools load and store data. This is an important step to respect visitor privacy and may be a legal requirement for operating your website in certain regions.
Kanorio provides setup tools and a consent banner, but it does not automatically make all legal compliance judgments for your website. If you have regulatory questions, please consult with a qualified legal professional.
Common Setup Scenarios
- To centrally manage multiple tracking codes: Prioritize using GTM.
- To view in-depth traffic reports from Google: Set up GA4.
- Running Facebook or Instagram ads: Set up Meta Pixel.
If you use both GTM and GA4, ensure you don't install the same GA4 tag twice within GTM, as this can lead to duplicate data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kanorio currently provides dedicated fields for GTM container IDs, GA4 measurement IDs, and Meta Pixel IDs. Please do not paste the full JavaScript tracking code into general content or embed modules.
First, confirm that the website has been published, the ID format is correct, and your browser isn't blocking tracking tools. Also, reports in third-party services may take some time to process.
There is currently no separate field for Google Ads. To manage Google Ads conversion tags, you can use Google Tag Manager and set them up according to Google Ads' instructions.
