Going Live and Domains
Once your website is complete, the most common next question is: "What URL will people use to find me?" This section will help you manage your website's public URL, and pause or delete your site when needed.
You don't need to be technical. Each article starts with a plain-language explanation of terms before guiding you through the steps.
What can this section help you with?
- Use a free URL provided by Kanorio, like
mystudio.kanorio.com. - Decide whether to use your own branded domain, like
mystudio.com. - Configure DNS settings with an external domain registrar to point your existing domain to Kanorio.
- Understand DNS, SSL certificates, and how to check their status while they propagate.
- Temporarily take your website offline or delete it permanently.
A URL is the address visitors type into their browser; a domain is the branded name you own, like mystudio.com; and DNS is the system that directs URLs to the correct website. Don't worry if these terms are new, this guide will help you find the information you need based on your situation.
First, confirm what you want to do
| Your Situation | |---|---| | I've just finished my site and want to find my free URL | | I want to use my own branded domain but don't know whether to buy or connect it | | I want to know the current status of Kanorio's domain purchasing feature | | I've already bought a domain elsewhere and need to connect it to Kanorio | | I've set up DNS, but my URL or the lock icon isn't showing correctly yet | | I want to temporarily unpublish my site or permanently remove it |
How is this different from other sections?
To ensure each document addresses a single topic directly, this section avoids repeating information found elsewhere:
- Publishing your site for the first time: For initial publishing checks, choosing a free URL, and hitting publish, please read Publish Your First Site.
- Drafts vs. Published versions: For understanding auto-save, pre-publish checks, and daily content updates, please read Drafts, Saving, and Publishing.
- Complete plan comparison: For a full overview of features and limits across all plans, please read Choose the Right Plan.
This section focuses specifically on "how to use, connect, and manage your URLs and domains," not on re-teaching content editing or the publishing process.
Recommended Reading Order
If you're new to Kanorio, follow this order:
- Kanorio Free URL - Every site can go live with a free URL first.
- Use Your Own Domain - Decide if you need a branded domain and how to get it.
- Continue based on your choice:
- To explore platform domain purchasing: Purchase a Domain on Kanorio.
- If you already own a domain: Connect Your Existing Domain.
- If you encounter setup issues, then read DNS Configuration and Troubleshooting.
Unpublish and Delete Your Site is a standalone topic. You can read it directly whenever you need to pause or end your website, regardless of whether you're using a custom domain.
How many URLs can a website have?
Each website comes with one free Kanorio URL. Once you meet your plan's requirements, you can also add your own domains.
After your custom domain is successfully active, the system will redirect the free URL to your primary custom domain to avoid content duplication. If you add multiple branded domains, secondary domains will also redirect to your chosen primary domain.
This "redirection" is handled by the system for visitors and search engines. You don't need to write code, but you should ensure all desired domains are correctly configured and active.
A Few Tips Before You Start
- It's perfectly fine to launch with your free URL first. You don't need to buy a domain on day one.
- If you already have a company email, preserve your existing email records when setting up your website's URL. Don't delete MX, SPF, or DKIM settings to add website records.
- Before changing a URL you've already shared, prepare to notify your customers, social media followers, and partners.
- DNS changes take time. Seeing "Waiting for DNS propagation" usually doesn't mean you've made a mistake.
We recommend starting with Kanorio Free URL. If you already own a domain, proceed directly to Connect Your Existing Domain.
