MCP (Model Context Protocol) acts as a translator between your AI assistant and Kanorio. Once connected, you don't need to click through the dashboard manually. Just tell ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor in plain English: "Help me create a website for a handmade bakery, add a hero section, three featured bread introductions, and an FAQ section on the homepage, then save it as a draft for me to review," and the AI will handle it for you in Kanorio.
https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcpDepending on your tool, there are two ways to connect:
| Tool | Connection Method | How it works | Next Step |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Zapier, Make | OAuth (No key required) | Paste the server URL into the tool. Your browser will redirect to the Kanorio authorization page. Click "Allow" to complete. Credentials are automatically managed and updated by the tool. | Method 1: Connect via OAuth |
| Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Perplexity, n8n, Custom Code | API Key | Create a knr_pat_ key in Kanorio, then copy and paste the generated configuration snippet into your tool. | Method 2: Connect via API Key |
If you are unsure which method your tool uses, go to "Account Settings › API Access" and click "Create Key". The first step is to select your tool; if you choose a tool that supports OAuth links, the screen will provide the server URL directly without creating a new key.
Both methods share the same security rules: The AI can never perform actions beyond the permissions you grant, nor can it exceed your member role on that website.
Suitable for tools with built-in "Connectors" like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Zapier, and Make. Here are examples for ChatGPT and Claude:
Kanorio, enter the MCP server URL https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcp, and select OAuth as the authentication method.Kanorio and the URL https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcp.After saving, your browser will open the Kanorio authorization page:
Prompted for authorization again? If you initially connected with the default "Edit Content" permission and later ask the AI to "publish the website" or "bind a custom domain," the AI assistant will automatically guide you back to the authorization page to grant the missing permissions (new items will be marked as "New"). Confirm and click "Allow" to continue. For a full explanation of the authorization screen and how to revoke access, see .
Gemini Usage Note: Google currently limits Gemini web's "Custom Apps" to personal accounts in the US, aged 18+, using an English interface. Gemini Enterprise is currently unsupported due to requirements for fixed client secrets.
Suitable for Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot (VS Code), Windsurf, Perplexity, n8n, and custom programs.
Once the key is created, the screen will generate a configuration already populated with your key and server URL. Click "Copy Configuration" and paste it into the appropriate location:
| Tool | Format Provided | Where to Paste |
|---|---|---|
| Cursor | .cursor/mcp.json config content | Project root .cursor/mcp.json or "Cursor Settings › MCP" |
| Claude Code | One-line claude mcp add command | Run directly in your terminal. Use claude mcp list to verify the connection. |
| GitHub Copilot | .vscode/mcp.json config content | Project .vscode/mcp.json. Reload VS Code after saving. |
| Perplexity | Server URL + API Key | Open Perplexity "Settings › Connectors › Custom Connector". Set URL to https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcp, select "API Key" for authentication, paste your key, and set transport to "Streamable HTTP". |
| Windsurf, n8n | URL + Authorization Header | Paste into the tool's MCP or HTTP connection settings. |
Cursor Configuration (.cursor/mcp.json) Example:
{ "mcpServers": { "kanorio": { "url": "https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer knr_pat_your_key" } } } }
Claude Code Terminal Command Example:
claude mcp add --transport http kanorio https://app.kanorio.com/api/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer knr_pat_your_key"
Prefer not to store keys in local config files? Cursor and Claude Code also support OAuth links: omit the
headersfield in Cursor settings or the--headerparameter in Claude Code. The tool will automatically open your browser on first use to take you to the Kanorio authorization page. Since these tools run locally, you may see a yellow "Identity Unverified" warning stating "You will be returned to the program on this device." As long as you initiated the connection, you can safely click "Allow" (see ).
Before letting the AI manage your site, understand which actions have a "draft buffer":
To protect your account security, finances, and customer privacy, the following actions are strictly prohibited via AI or API at the system level. Even with "Full Management" permissions, these must be performed by you in the Kanorio dashboard:
Once connected, the AI can call these 17 capabilities (tool names on the right are for engineering reference or checking call logs in Cursor/Claude):
| Functional Area | What AI can do for you | MCP Tool Name |
|---|---|---|
| Module Specs | Query all supported module types, field formats, and layout suggestions | sections_describe |
| Website & Status | List sites, view plan and publishing status, read visual site structure (page hierarchy, module composition, and store/blog stats), create a blank site or launch AI site wizard, check AI build progress | sites_list, sites_get, sites_structure, sites_create, jobs_get |
| Appearance & Settings | Read site settings (including read-only currency); update brand colors, fonts, border radius, layout density, dark/light mode, and content language | site_get_settings, site_update_settings |
| Header, Footer & Global Buttons | Read/update main header navigation and footer; set global CTA buttons, brand social links, and breadcrumb toggles | globals_get, globals_replace_header, , |
AI assistants work best when following these 7 steps (this sequence is built into the sections_describe guide, which the AI follows automatically):
.kanorio.com subdomain).Example 1: Build a brand website from scratch (Draft mode)
Please build a new brand website for me in Kanorio: - Brand Name: [Your Brand Name] - Industry & Intro: [Description of your business and services] - Style & Colors: [e.g., Warm earthy tones, soft rounded corners, light background] - Primary Action Button: [e.g., Book Now (link to https://instagram.com/example)] Please plan and build a "Homepage" and "About Us" page. Pick suitable stock photos for the bakery/bread theme. After building, update the header navigation and save as a draft for my review before publishing.
Example 2: Rewrite existing pages & optimize SEO
Please read my [Your Brand Name] website in Kanorio: 1. Review the current homepage modules, rewrite the text to be more engaging, and add an "FAQ" module at the bottom (include 4 Q&As regarding storage, booking times, and allergens). 2. Check and update the SEO title and description for all pages on the site. Please save as a draft, do not publish yet, and tell me what you have changed.
Example 3: Uploading photos & drafting a blog post
I want to add a blog post about "Autumn Chestnut Sourdough Launch" to my [Your Brand Name] website and update the homepage hero image with a new photo I just took. Please provide a link for me to upload the photo. Once uploaded, please update the image and create the blog draft.
Why can't the AI use photos I paste into the chat?
Due to security restrictions, ChatGPT/Claude only allow the AI to "see" images in the chat; they do not transfer raw image files to Kanorio. When a site needs an image, the AI will follow one of these four paths. Just follow the AI's prompts:
| Your Situation | How AI helps | Format & Limits |
|---|---|---|
| 1. You have your own photo files (Recommended) | Tell the AI "I have photos to upload." The AI will call media_create_upload_link and provide a unique upload URL. Open the link on your phone or computer, select your photos, and upload. Once done, tell the AI "Uploaded," and the photos will be added to your media library. | Link valid for 15 minutes; max 20 files per upload (default 10); max 10 MB per file. Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC (iPhone Live Photos auto-convert). |
| 2. You have public image URLs | Paste the https:// image URL directly to the AI. The AI will download and save the image to your media library. | Max 40 MB per file. Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, HEIC. |
| 3. You want to migrate images from an old site | Paste your old site URL to the AI. The AI will list the cover, logo, and content images for you to select. It will ask you to confirm "Do you own these images or have permission to use them?" before saving them to your library. | Must be a publicly accessible page. Pages requiring login (e.g., Instagram, Facebook) cannot be crawled; please use the upload link in Method 1 instead. |
| 4. You don't have photos yet | The AI will search Pexels and Pixabay for free commercial-use stock photos, save them to your library, and notify you where they are used so you can replace them later. |
media_trash). Files in the trash stop displaying on your site but still count toward storage. You can restore them within 30 days via the AI or the (media_restore). To permanently delete, ask the AI (media_purge; it will confirm if the image is still in use). Digital product downloads are protected and cannot be moved to trash.sites_create in brief mode) uses your account's AI credits and daily site-building limits. Free plan limits (page count, visible modules) apply (see ).Check three things:
Building a new site requires the key or authorization scope to be set to "All websites (including future additions)". If you only selected specific existing sites, the AI cannot build new ones. Edit your key or re-authorize the app to change the scope to "All websites".
AI changes are saved as drafts. Preview in the "Edit Website" dashboard and click "Publish" only when satisfied. If unsatisfied, click "Version History" in the editor (or ask the AI to "restore to the version before the last change," which calls revisions_restore). All AI/API writes are logged in Activity Log with the key name for security.
Changing currency affects the entire store's pricing units and is restricted by payment gateways. Changing product prices directly impacts checkout amounts. To prevent accidental losses, these must be manually managed in "Site Settings › General" and "Store › Products".
